Network Write for Us
Network Write for Us – A network contains two or more computers connected to share resources (such as copiers and CDs), exchange files, or enable electronic communication. Computers on a network can be secured by cables, telephone lines, satellites, radio waves, or infrared light beams.
Two very communal types of networks include:
- Local Area Network (LAN)
- Wide Area Network (WAN)
You may also see links to Metropolitan Area Networks (MAN), Wireless LAN (WLAN), or Wireless WAN (WWAN).
Local Network
A local area network (LAN) remains a network that remains limited to a relatively small area. It is generally partial to a geographic area such as a script lab, school, or building. Computers connected to a network are typically categorized as attendants or workstations.
Servers are usually not used by humans directly but run around the clock to provide “services” to other computers (and their human users) on the network. Services provided include printing and faxing software hosting, file storage then sharing, messaging, data storage and recovery, complete access control (security) to network resources and much more.
Workstations are so-called because they usually have a human user who communicates with the network through them. Workstations have traditionally been considered a desktop computer consisting of a computer, display and mouse, keyboard, or a laptop with an integrated keyboard, display and touchpad.
With the advent of tablet computers and touchscreen devices such as the iPad and iPhone, our definition of a workstation is rapidly evolving to include these devices due to their ability to interact with the network and consume network services.
Wide Area Network
Wide Area Networks (WANs) connect networks across larger geographic areas, such as FL, the United States, or the entire world. Dedicated transoceanic cabling or satellite uplinks can click into this global network.
Using a WAN, schools in Florida container communicate with places like Tokyo in seconds without incurring huge phone bills. Two users half a world apart with workstations equipped with microphones and web cameras can teleconference in real-time.
WAN remain complicated, using multiplexers, bridges, and routers to attach local and metropolitan area networks to global communication networks such as the Internet. However, a WAN will not appear very different from a LAN to users.
Advantages Of Installing A School Network
User access control.
Modern networks almost continuously have one or more servers that allow centralized management of users and the network resources they have access. User credentials on a privately owned and operated network can be as simple as a username and password. With the ever-increasing attention paid to computer security issues, these servers are critical to safeguarding that sensitive information is accessible only to authorized users.
Information storage and sharing.
Computers allow workers to create and manipulate information. Information on the network lives a life of its own. A network provides a place to store data and mechanisms for sharing that information with other network users.
Connection.
Administrators, instructors, scholars, and guests can connect using the campus network.
Services.
The school can offer services such as registration, university directories, course schedules, research access, email accounts and many more. (Remember that servers generally provide network services).
Internet.
The school can deliver network users access to the Internet through an Internet gateway.
